Most every office or workplace you enter will be lit by fluorescent lights because they give the most light for the buck. Unfortunately they are the cool white color which has a lot of excess yellow color in it and hardy any blue color. Everything Old Is New Again – Rebuilding Your Vision

Glasses, contacts, or surgery. These are the usual choices offered to those of us with bad vision. Orlin Sorensen, though, needed an alternative. A commercial airline pilot who found himself in jeopardy of being downsized after the 9/11 tragedies, Sorensen decided to go for broke and pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a Navy fighter pilot. Opportunities Killed My Vision

Sounds ridiculous but it has happened. You’re on a roll, things are going great; opportunities are coming to you every day. Right now, you’re thinking 2 maybe 3 months down the road. Not really long term but long enough to take advantage of some of the opportunities that are appearing. Everything sounds good! You have the glazed look of someone who is almost overwhelmed.

Almost because you are taking the time to investigate each opportunity, right? You are looking at the short term and long-term impacts, right? Long term as in where does this get me in a year, right? How does it impact my branding, my current and potential clients? Does it fit in to my strategic plan?

You are not stopping to property investigate the opportunities? You might want to slow down, take a breath and do some research.

It is a wonderful feeling when opportunities start coming your way fast and furious and not all of those opportunities will serve you or your business. It takes as much courage to turn down an opportunity as it does to run with one. Why? There are the inevitable questions about why you didn’t align with a proven company, or take the opportunity to bring revenue in today, or partner with the well-known businessperson that contacted you. People may not understand your choices.

They do not need to. Only you need to understand your choices. You need to look at each opportunity and determine if it will further your brand and if it fits into your strategic vision. If an opportunity will bring you revenue but pull your business away from your vision you need to decide if that distraction is worth the time and effort. I recently had the opportunity to do some work that would bring me consistent revenue, put me in front of a new audience and allow me to work with some brilliant folks.

At the end of the day, that opportunity will force me to spend at least one day a week focusing on something that is not my passion. It does not further my business vision and may get me ‘known’ in an area I am not interested in pursuing long term. The role would be a distraction, and not a small one, from the vision I am creating. I turned the opportunity down- walked away from the revenue- and recommitted myself to the vision I love. The vision that is gaining momentum every day! It’s the pursuit of that vision that brought me the opportunity I turned down. That same vision is bringing me additional opportunities, opportunities that fit neatly into my strategy.

Keep your eyes open for opportunities. Determine how well they fit into your existing plan. Maybe the risk of a slight deviation from the plan is worth it, there are times when that deviation is the greatest thing you will ever do. Take the time to make an educated decision, then don’t look back! Move forward and embrace the opportunity.

Leadership Strategies – Be a Change Leader With an Organic Vision

Let’s talk change leadership, personally and professionally. Stretching to new levels of excellence and making major changes needs to begin with a compelling organic vision. This vision is a map from where you begin to plan your strategies.

Before planning can begin, however, it is necessary to have your organic vision. An organic vision is one that is an expression of self authenticity and integrity. It is one which you believe in and will take responsibility to fulfill. An organic vision calls forth the self you are meant to develop. It is your journey and something you are passionate about being involved in creating. Without having this, life may seem ordinary and without purpose.

Let’s say you value freedom and you want to live in a world where there is “freedom for all.” The bigger picture you have for the world is “freedom for all.” To do your part in having “freedom for all” you generate a smaller visualization which contributes to the mega world vision. Your vision is the micro part that contributes to the whole. It is not made up of should’s, but speaks from what truly resonates from your higher self. This vision is articulate, inspiring and motivates you.

For example, freedom is high on my lists of values. My bigger vision for “freedom for all” is people in the world are living life on purpose doing what they love. They show up as leaders in their life professionally and personally. My part in contributing to freedom around the world is to the best coach I can be, helping people fulfill their destiny doing what they love, thereby creating a world full of love, peace and joy. As a result, doing what I love has a synergistic effect; wherein the total effect is greater than the sum of the individuals who have the same mega vision. Whatever you do in life you are part of the whole. Your part is significant. So the larger vision “freedom for all – people in the world living life on purpose doing what they love” is being achieved through the diversity of individuals with the same mega vision.

Once you have a deeper understanding of what is important to you, why it is important to you, and how you would feel living your ideal, you can begin to plan. Unfortunately, most people become followers by reacting to circumstances surrendering their freedom of choice. When you connect to your organic vision you are motivated, have clarity, and learn to be in command of your choices. You take ownership of your journey to lead from a place of authenticity. That is freedom!

I write a lot about organic vision and being on purpose passionately because each of us is a leader making a difference. We are the CEO’s of our lives, personally and professionally. The most effective CEO demonstrates leadership from an organic vision that benefits the whole. It is wise to work in an atmosphere that correlates to your ideal vision in transformation, thereby expanding the change you want to see synergistically. We all contribute and make a difference. To be alive and awake to the difference is born within you and brings your vision alive. Now you can plan. And yes, there will be stops and starts along the way, but the difference is you get to choose. You get to wake up your dream and live to take action.

A major stopping point for most people in planning is they get stopped by the “how.” Because you are moving into something new and out of your comfort zone, it is understandable you don’t have the answers right in front of you, because if you knew how, you would already be doing it! Change is inherent with stretching out of the norm into the unknown.

Change also seems to bring an absence of what is known. It is almost like a having a memory lapse of what you do know that will give you leverage. The inner critics have a job to keep the status quo. But the failure in that belief, that everything remains the same, is totally wrong. Nothing is stagnant. The changing seasons are evidence of the ebb and flow of life. The river before it reaches its path to the sea goes through a number of changes; it encounters eddies, rapids, calm, flow, stagnation and streams.

Questions Hold the Answers:

oWhat is the essence of who you are and who you are becoming?

oWhat are your top five values?

oWhich of these values contribute to being a “change leader”?

oWhat is the difference you want to make in the world?

oWhat would the world look like with this change?

oWhere in your communities are you being in action, contributing to the whole, making the difference you want to have happen?

oWhat are your strengths that give you leverage in developing your vision?

TIPS:

oYou do make a difference. You are the CEO leading your life. Picture if you will standing at the edge of a river. You have a stone in your hand, which is a metaphor of you. You throw the stone in the water and ripples appear, flowing outward from the stone. This is you and the ripple effect you have in the world. Create your organic vision. Know it is ever evolving and changing as you are evolving.

oStart making plans beginning with the end in mind. Don’t get into overwhelm. Maybe visualize three to five years from now – or to make it easier 12 months from now. Picture what you see accomplished at the end of that time. In your mind imagine the steps you took from say one year from the day you started to the present time.

oToday write down 4 action steps you can take to be in action. They don’t have to be biggies. It can be writing your vision, making a call, doing research, developing a new habit to facilitate your taking action, etc.

oRemember: Anything is Possible – You are the possibility of change and transformation.

2. Eat lots of bilberries to sharpen you vision. Bilberries or sometimes called European blueberries are highly regarded for their high levels of antioxidants and contain anthocyanosides that may reduce the risk of poor eyesight. Bilberries can be eaten raw, but many cooks prefer to use them in jams, jellies, syrups and other products.

3. Always include green vegetables in your everyday menu. Research reported that lutein, a nutrient that is found in spinach, may prevent age-related macular degeneration and cataracts. The best is to combine spinach with vegetable or olive oil for easy absorption.

4. Red onions can help you to chase poor eyesight. Red onions contain quercetin, an antioxidant that is believed to prevent cataract.

Can You See Your Relationship Vision?

In my relationship counseling work with singles and couples, I often hear statements such as, “I just fell into this relationship and found out after 4 months we are not working” or, “He/she is not the person I thought they were and I want out” or, “I keep repeating the same mistakes over and over again and don’t seem to be able to find the right partner”. Another common statement is “I’m just not satisfied where my relationship is going and it feels like we are drifting apart.” If any of these statements ring true, then developing a relationship vision can help you.

Let me take you on a journey. If you have a partner, I want you to imagine you and your partner in your ideal relationship in 1 year from now. What are you doing? How are you being with each other? What is your relationship like? I then want you to consider your relationship in 5 years from now. How do you deal with stress as a couple? How do you work through differences and conflict? How do you communicate when you are both not at your best? Now if you are beginning to get a sense of what might be happening in your relationship and how you ideally are with each other, then you are beginning to create a relationship vision.

If you are single, I encourage you to do the same exercise, however, think about the type of partner you wish to be with and what type of relationship you want to create with someone. Now I am not talking about what colour eyes, type of car, or how much income your potential future partner will have. What I am referring to is the values that you feel strongly about and you would like to share with your partner. For example, what values do you have around respect, communication and affection? You may place an importance on listening to each other when you experience conflict. You may value saying hello and goodbye with a gesture of affection. And no matter how hard or bad things get between you, you always want to be treated respectfully.

Becoming clearer about what you want to create with your partner can help you engage in your relationship with more direction and focus. For singles it can mean that when you begin a new relationship, you are going in with your eyes wide open. You will be clear within yourself about what you are looking for and what is important to you. It’s like being in a boat at sea at night and seeing a lighthouse in the distance. The lighthouse tells you where to sail when you see it’s light. Think of your relationship like that boat. Without direction and a long term vision, you may not end up going anywhere fast. And the worst case scenario is you may hit the rocks.

Relationship visioning can help you and your partner define your relationship goals and then move towards them. I encourage my clients to write down 5 personal goals, 5 professional/work goals and 5 relationship goals. Do this for 1 year from now, 5 years from now and even further if you wish. I suggest that you do this in isolation to begin with and then share them with each other once you have completed your goals. You might be surprised to learn about your partners vision! The next step is finding a way you can bring your separate visions together and begin to work on the goals that are important for each of you.
